Project 18 : How Space Changes with Light
How Space Changes with Light
I have noticed that the autumn light looks very pretty when you are walking along, or in the car but when you come to take photographs it can be quite difficult. The sun is low and catching the lens, and the shadows are very hard and much more noticeable, not always the result you desired.
Below I have two sets of pictures, one interior and one exterior, to show different lights. The first pictures it is dark outside and the artificial lighting isnt casting many shadows from the chair, and the window is black. In the second picture the window is very bright, highlighting the chair and casting shadows on the floor and wall. Also the floor colour is altered considerably and wall tones are lighter.
Inside Space
Exterior Space
Here with the exterior space, the barn has the sun shining brightly on it in the first picture and not so in the second, the second picture is showing a more solid black colour. The grasses show more definition in the first picture, the second looking a little flat. There is also a shadow cast from the trees on the first picture and roof is looking lighter in colour. The door surrounds also are showing more brightly, giving a definite outline. Shadows are also cast on the concrete.

Project 17 : The Users Point of View
With my photographs here, I understand what you are asking with, taking the photograph from the users point of view, and the explanations of the japaneses room or a golfers view point, but its difficult when you take the photograph not to just be taking it of the building.
My first set of photos are of St Pauls Cathedral, and I am taking them as a tourist, walking around, getting snapshots as I go of different angles, seeing the building through the railings.. looking up at the vast pillars and observing the pigeons landing where they shouldn't, as usual. I also could have gone into the building and maybe taken a photo from one of the seats, where you would stop for prayer, or walking down the aisle. This would maybe show different use of St Pauls, but i'm hoping I can say I am using it as a tourist in this instance.
Buckingham Palace
Im hoping this is a better description of people at Buckingham Palace from inside the gates. Normally we are kept well outside. Obviously this is the home of the Queen but in the summer the palace is open for tours. I have taken shots of the Palace inside the gates, one of the view of the gates from inside, people using the restaurant facilities, however I did like this shot but maybe I could have taken it whilst sitting at the table to have given a view as a restaurant user. The palace is so beautiful and you want to get it all in the photograph, so you are pulled to take what I call more of a normal shot. But I hope this gives a view of inside the gates and of people using the building.
Local Farm - Westland Green
Here a local farm which is constantly in use, these are the views of the farmer as he comes to work every day.
Wyndhams Theatre
And finally, visiting a Theatre, when you are searching for your theatre you are looking up for street names, Theatre signs, posters, lights ... before you go in to enjoy your show.
I found this quite tricky, but from this I have learnt more by making errors, I will continue on with this and look for different situations, and taking more photographs and thinking about locations from a users point of view and see what I come up with.
